Create Your Outlook Profile

INSTRUCTIONS to CREATE a NEW MICROSOFT OUTLOOK USER PROFILE

Windows XP login users: 

  • Login to the computer as yourself (you can not be logged in as another user and get this to work)
  • Double click the Microsoft Outlook icon, if this tries to starts up outlook please stop and got to Win 95/98 instructions
  • In lower right hand corner fill in a name, first name is ok (this is not seen again)
  • Click OK (on User Name Screen)
  • Microsoft Outlook setup wizard should appear in upper left area of monitor
  • In the Use the following information services area, check Microsoft Exchange Server block
  • Click next
  • Type in SDSMT-EX01
  • Make sure your user name is in the next block down, if not type it in>
  • Click next
  • Click next (no travel)
  • You should now see what has been added to your new account (Microsoft exchange server and outlook address book are the two that should be there).
  • Click finish
  • Outlook should open now
  • Maximize the screen
  • Click View from top line pull down menus
  • Click preview pane, this turns it off (you may leave this if you want this view)
  • Click View again
  • Click folder list, this turns on folder column (we suggest you leave this on but you may turn it off too)
  • Click tools from top pull down list
  • Click options
  • Click other tab
  • Check Empty the deleted items folder upon exiting
  • Click auto archive button
  • Uncheck the top block (auto archive every 14 days) very bad thing to leave on, call me and ill tell you why but to long to print here
  • The auto archive should now go un-highlighted
  • Click ok
  • Click spelling tab
  • Check second block down always check spelling before sending, this is very good choice but also not required, will help you look good
  • Click ok at bottom of Options screen
  • You're all done!  Please logout of system and re-log in, start Outlook, if all is working well great, if not please call the Help Desk at 394-1295
