Junk Mail and Chain Letters... As you use Internet resources, your email address can be obtained by advertisers or other people. You will receive 'junk' email, just as you receive direst mail solicitations and advertisements via regular mail. DO NOT forward any of these messages!!!! Some promise easy ways to make money. Some chain letters threaten dire consequences if the recipient doesn't forward the chain letter. Some of this junk mail is warnings about various hoax viruses or non-existent system problems. Most of them request that you forward the message to more people. This is called spamming and is not tolerated at SDSM&T.  If you receive Spam that appears to have come from campus or from a member of the campus community, please report it to the Help Desk and we will identify the source and get it stopped. We can't control or eliminate unwanted messages that come from off campus, but we can limit them.. In general, just delete these messages immediately to avoid wasting any further resources or efforts. If you receive a warning about a computer bug or virus and it appears to be legitimate, please check it out with the Help Desk before you forward the message to anyone. If we find that the situations warrants it, ITS will issue an official warning to the campus.
