I. SAVING The filename must be index.htm Saving will immediately publish your webpage to the public, so if you don't want the page to be seen, save it with a different file name until you are ready for the world to see your work. |

II. BACKGROUND To change the background of your page, right click any where on the background ofthe page and select Page Properties To change the title of your webpage (the title is what appears in the top left corner of the window when your page is opened on the web), click on the General tab and type your title in the Title dialog box To change the background, click on the Background tab

To set the background as a picture, select the box next to Background Picture, then click on Browse to find the picture you want to use from your public_htm folder. You must first save images in your public_htm folder as a .jpg or .gif file in order to use them on your webpage. To make the background picture as a watermark (meaning your picture will reamin stationary while the text scrolls over the top), select the box next to Watermark To change the color of the background, select a color from the box next to the word Background The color of the text on your page can be changed in this same dialog box by selecting a color from the box next to the word Text

lll. INSERTING: TEXT, PICTURES and FILES

Pictures and/or files must be saved to your publick_html folder on you H:/drive in order to use them on your web page. Files such as Word documents work best if saved as *.htm or *.html files. This can be done by saving your document as *.htm (Web page file) instead of *.doc. |
TEXT To insert TEXT into your webpage place your cursor where you wnat the text to appear and begin typing. Format text in FrontPage in the same way you format text in Word, highlight and chose your text face, size and color.

IMAGES/PICTURES To insert an image into your webpage, click on Insert/Picture/From File.....

Select an image/picture from your public_html folder and click OK. To format an image, click on the image. The image tool bar will appear near the picture. If the toolbar does not appear, click View/Toolbars/Pictures. Images may also be formatted by right clicking on the image and selecting Picture Properties.

FILES To insert a File click on Insert/File... Select a file from your public_html folder then select OK.

lV. HYPERLINKING To link a word or an image, highlight the image or word, right click on object ot be linked and select Hyperlink. There are four options for linking:

Hot Spots can be used when hyperlinking a specific spot or spots of a picture (you may want to do this if you have a map and want to link individual states). To create a Hot Spot click on the image briging up the picture toolbar. Select one of the three hot spot shapes (rectangle, circle, polygon). Use the shape to define an area which you wnat to link. After you have completed the shape the hyperlink option box will pop up. From this box chose one of the four options for linking (discussed above). Before clicking OK after you have selected the linking method, click on the button labeled Screen Tip in the right top corner of the Hyperlink link box. In this box type the word or words you want o appear as the user 'mouses over' the portion of the picture you have linked (i.e., if you were using a map you would want the name of the state to appear as the user moused over each state).

V. BOOKMARKS |
A bookmark is a flagged point in the document that can be used as a reference point (i.e., If you have an exceptionally long web page, you may want to have a link at the bottom of the page or each section that returns your reader back to the top of the page).
To insert a booksmark, place your cursor at the point where you want your link to take you (i.e., the top of the page). Click on Insert/Bookmark...and type in the name of your bookmark (i.e., Top) in the box below Bookmark name:
To link this bookmark, highlight and right-click on the text (i.e., Back to Top) and select Hyperlink...
To complete the link select the Place in this Document option and highlight the book mark you want to link (i.e., Top)

Marquee To insert a Marquee click on Insert/Web Component... make sure that Dynamic Effects is selected under Componenet Type. Select Marquee under Choose an Effect and click Finish. The Marquee Properties box will appear. Enter in the text you want to see scrolling across the screen. There are many options you may select when formatting your Marquee
Hover Buttons To insert a Hover Button, click on Insert/Web Component.... make sure that Dynamic Effect is selected under Component Type. Select Hover Button under Choose an Effect and click Finish. The Hover Button Properties box will appear. Enter in the text that you want to see on the Hover Button and click on Browse....to choose the hyperlink (See HYPERLINKING). There are many options you may select when formatting your Hover Button.

Vll. DYNAMIC HTML EFFECTS |
Dynamic HTML Effects may be used on text to add special effects to your webpage. To use Dynamic HTML Effects, select the text that you want to effect; from Format choose Dynamic HTML Effects. The Dynamic HTML Effects box will appear. Choose an event that you want o cause the effect to occur (page load, mouse click, etc) from the first box. Then choose the effect you wish to occur (flying format, hop, etc.) from the second box. Some effects will allow you to choose an option from a third box (this option usually deals with formatting of borders, text, etc. After you have chosen effects, click the X in the top right corner of the Dynamic HTML Effects box. To preview the effect, click on the Preview Tab.
This function has lots of vaiables so you will need to play with the options to see what each one does. Some of these effects can be used on images.
You may notice a blue box around your selected object. This box let's you know thatyou have created a dynamic effect on an object. This box will not appear when you publish your webpage.
