VPN to SDSMT

 VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORKING at SDSM&T

 

1. To set up a VPN connection with XP, double click on “My Computer” , then...

 

2. Click on “My Network Places.”

 

 

 

 3. Click on “View Network Connections.”

 

 

 

 4.) Click on “Create a New Connection.”

 

 

 

 5. On the “Welcome to the New Connection Wizard” screen, click “Next.”

 

 

6. Click on “Connect to the network at my workplace.”

 

 
 

7. Click on “Virtual Private Network connection.”

 

 

 

 8.) Type whatever you want to name the connection. (ie. SDSM&T)

 

 

 

 9. Type “techvpn.sdsmt.edu” in the Host name or IP address box.

 

 

 

 10. You should see a screen labeled “Completing the New Connection Wizard.” Click  “Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.”

 

 

 

11.) Go to your desktop and click on the “SDSM&T” connection icon. The screen above should appear. Enter your school user name and Password and click on “Connect.”

Once the connection is established, you will need to map the drives that you want to see.
To do this, right click on My Network Places.
Cick on Map Network Drive
Choose the letter of the drive you want to access f: is
\\speedy.sdsmt.edu\sdsmtshare
In the folder box type: file://speedy.sdsmt.edu/(techid)$
Do not Choose reconnect at logon.
Click Finish.
It will ask you to login again when you try to access the drives.
Type: sdsmt\userid and then your password. You should have full access to the network drives.

 

To ensure that you can access the Internet when VPN is enabled:

  • On the dialog box shown above, Click Properties, choose the Networking tab, choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and
    click Properties.
  • In the resulting window, click the Advance button.  In the new window, uncheck the box for "Use default gateway of
    remote network", then click apply or OK.  Close out of the windows.
